RECOMMENDATION:
That the District 6 City Council Member, through the nomination and appointment process, make an appointment to the Sister City Commission to a term ending December 31, 2026.
DISCUSSION:
City boards and commissions (“commissions”) perform a valuable service to the City by providing a means by which the City Council can obtain the advice, opinions, and recommendations of City residents and other members of the community. The Sister City Commission is appointed by and acts as an advisory body to the City Council and responsible for the growth and development of its sister cities Mito, Japan and Vitoria- Gasteiz, Spain. The commission works year round to develop Anaheim’s cultural exchange opportunities, economic development and exploration of future sister cities.
The Sister City Commission consists of fifteen (15) members. The Mayor and each City Council Member directly appoint one member to the Commission, with the remaining eight (8) members appointed at-large as recommended by staff and members of the Sister City Commission. Mayor Pro Tem Natalie Meeks (District 6) is prepared to make an appointment to the Sister City Commission to complete an unexpired term ending December 31, 2026, resulting from an unscheduled vacancy.
Pursuant to Section 54974 of the Government Code, the Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy were posted for at least ten business days.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Funds to support the work of the Boards and Commissions are budgeted by the City Departments providing support and liaison.
