RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
City of Watsonville Sanitary Landfill, Watsonville, Santa Cruz County, California (April 2023 - present) CQA Monitor supervising the 7-acre Phase (Cell) 4 Landfill Expansion Project Composite Liner construction and the 6 -acre Phase 3 L andfill Cover construction . CQA responsibilities included inspection , documentation, and testing of geosynthetics installation and backfill soils placement (nuclear gauge and sand cone density testing of the subgrade and compacted clay liner, cover soil, and operation layer) .

Inspected assembly of mechanical elements of leachate collection and re moval sy stem (LCRS) such as piping and pumps. The LCRS is designed to drain leachate to collection sumps which consist of an HDPE riser and submersible pump. Leachate drains to the leachate collection system, where it is transferred to a central collection pump and piped to an onsite holding pond. If necessary, the leachate is transported to an approved offsite wastewater treatment plant for disposal. The system is designed to automatically pump leachate to maintain compliance with state requirements.

Observes and documents installation of landfill gas (LFG) collection and processing mechanical systems.

Instead of escaping into the air, LFG is captured, converted, and used as a renewable energy resource.

LFG is extracted from landfills using a series of wells a nd a blower/flare (or vacuum) system. This system Woody Drew Arnold Field Engineer

directs collected gas to a central point where it can be processed and treated depending upon the ultimate use for the gas. From this point, the gas can be flared or beneficially used in an LFG energy project.
