FROM: OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK

ATTACHMENT (Y/N): YES ITEM # 12
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: NO
RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Council, through the nomination and appointment process, take the following actions:

1. District 4 appointment to the Housing and Community Development Commission to complete an unexpired term, ending December 31, 2028; and

2. At-large tenant appointments [two (2) appointments] to the Housing and Community Development Commission for terms expiring December 31, 2026 and December 31, 2028.

DISCUSSION:

City boards and commissions (“commissions”) perform a valuable service to the City by providing a means by which the City Council can obtain the advice, opinions, and recommendations of City residents and other members of the community. The Housing and Community Development Commission acts as an advisory body to the City Council and assists in soliciting citizen participation relating to community development efforts and uses of HUD funds within each respective neighborhood council area. The commission consists of nine members, two of whom are tenant members. Nine of the appointments directly nominated by and serves a term concurrent with the nominating elected official. The two tenant members are nominated and appointed by a majority vote of the City Council.

Joseph Gonzales was first appointed by Council Member Norma Campos Kurtz (District 4) to the Housing and Community Development Commission on January 14, 2025 to a term ending December 31, 2028. Mr. Gonzales is unable to complete his term and therefore appointment to complete his term is necessary.

The two (2) at-large tenant appointments must be residents of the City, as well as qualified tenant members administered by the Anaheim Housing Authority.
