6. NEW BUSINESS:
a. Council Member Kurtz’s Meeting Update - Commissioner Noteboom reported that the meeting on September 10 was a success, with many ideas for a stand-alone Senior Center coming from the residents who participated. She followed up with a thank-you letter to Council Member Kurtz.
Commissioner Rose noted that there were around 30 people present, and Maureen Richardson said that she recognized people from every district so there was good representation. Council Member Kurtz plans to hold these meetings at each of the districts. b. Status of Community and Family Resource Center Programming for Youth and Older Adults – Vice-Chair Brio had requested a breakdown of the community centers and family resource centers and what they each offer. Maureen Richardson provided a list of programs at the facilities for older adults and for youth, and she highlighted items on the list. Chair Barnes congratulated Maureen on the huge expansion of programming for older adults, and asked staff to investigate partnering up with local high schools for the cooking classes to cook and bring meals in for the older adults. Maureen Richardson will inquire with the schools to see if they still have those classes; she also explained some of the strict rules in place for food preparation.
After discussion, it was decided they would not pursue that avenue, but rather instead focus on pre-packaged food from places like Bracken’s Kitchen. Vice-Chair Brio thanked Maureen for her work on preparing this information.
