DATE: JANUARY 13, 2026
FROM: OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK
SUBJECT: OLDER ADULTS COMMISSION APPOINTMENT
(DISTRICT 1), UNSCHEDULED VACANCY
ATTACHMENT (Y/N): YES ITEM # 15
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: NO
RECOMMENDATION:

That District 1 Council Member, through the nomination and appointment process, appoint a member to the Older Adults Commission to complete an unexpired term, ending December 31, 2028.

DISCUSSION:

City boards and commissions (“commissions”) perform a valuable service to the City by providing a means by which the City Council can obtain the advice, opinions, and recommendations of City residents and other members of the community. The Older Adults Commission is appointed by and acts as an advisory body to the City Council and makes recommendations concerning the needs of older adults in the community. Each member is directly nominated by and serves a term concurrent with the nominating elected official, which is ratified by an affirmative majority vote of the City Council.

District 1 Council Member Ryan Balius is prepared to make an appointment to the Older Adults Commission (unscheduled vacancy), with a term ending December 31, 2028.

Pursuant to Section 54974 of the Government Code, the Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy was posted and has remained posted for ten working days.

IMPACT ON BUDGET:

Funds to support the work of the Boards and Commissions are budgeted by the City Departments providing support and liaison.

Respectfully submitted,
Theresa Bass
City Clerk
