DISCUSSION:

In May 2025, Councilmembers Meeks, Maahs, and Campos Kurtz formed an ad hoc committee to further policy initiatives for the Anaheim Resort 2.0 initiative, focusing on the growth of the Anaheim Resort and its connection to the Platinum Triangle. At its subsequent meeting, the ad hoc committee recommended the city retain a professional urban design firm to facilitate stakeholder workshops to help generate new and bold ideas around growth and development, mobility, branding, and placemaking in the Anaheim Resort.

Staff prepared a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for urban design services and received bids from five qualified design firms. A Technical Review Panel consisting of city staff and a representative from Visit Anaheim evaluated the submissions and selected three firms for interviews. Following interviews, the urban design firm, Gehl Studios Inc., was selected as the preferred consultant based on their broad international expertise in people- first urban design and mobility.

The proposed scope of work, developed in coordination with city staff, will include Gehl’s facilitation of two stakeholder workshops, the development of bold ideas and concepts on the topics of growth and development, branding and placemaking, as well as mobility in and around the Resort and connection to the Platinum Triangle. These efforts Anaheim Resort 2.0 Urban Design and Mobility Visioning Initiative – Professional Services Agreement with Gehl Studio Inc.
