Hi there,
My name is Bianca. I live in BC, Canada. I work with Rescues and help network shelter dogs in the SoCal area.
On Feb.22 a bulldog named was scheduled to be euthanized at Apple Valley. He was being well networked and an adopter stepped up wanting him. She called the shelter multiple times and spoke with different people. Our networkers kept calling the Shelter to ensure they were receiving the phone calls because nobody who could place a hold on the dog would get back to the adopter. Networkers we’re told no calls for him were being made.
I requested proof from the potential adopter that she’d been calling the shelter and speaking with staff. She sent pictures. She called nearly a dozen times, left messages and sometimes spoke with staff.
Thankfully, a local rescue was finally able to get a hold of Brandy and while extremely difficult given Brandy’s rudeness and seeming dislike for trying to save the dog, the rescue finally put a hold on him. He was saved.
I live in Canada and Apple Valley shelter’s reputation is commonly known here for being difficult to work with.
I believe in the kindness and generosity of Shelter staff. The difficulties they experience on a daily basis must break their hearts, but it isn’t ok to make the process of saving lives difficult.
Furthermore, the dogs that are scheduled for euthanasia are placed in horrendous living quarters with no access to water or safe living temperatures. That’s not ok.
I hope that you can help make it easier for people to adopt from Apple Valley, and the last moments of the dogs’ lives worthy of humanity. They’ve been through enough.
Thank you for reading and listening.
Bianca
