Please include the following comments on the record for the council meeting on 9/12.
I am emailing as a concerned citizen in regards to ongoing animal abuse occurring at the Apple Valley Municipal Animal Shelter. Former employees have reported the following, as well as numerous current volunteers:
- dogs confined in small cages from Saturday to Monday, under direct sun with no cage cleaning, food or water
- food and medications (e.g., antibiotics, treatments, etc) are simply thrown into cages with multiple dogs. How do they know which dog consumes them? - very, very poor and unsanitary conditions
- insufficient partnership with pet rescues (e.g., euthanizing dogs without notice, ignoring rescue holds)
- No veterinary care
I urge you to investigate this manner ASAP. There is a lack of transparency of how taxpayer funds are spent within this shelter. It is imperative that there is an investigation completed as this is completely unacceptable. Google reviews speak for themselves. I also possess multiple videos of these completely unacceptable conditions.
