My name is Shelby Singleton-Duncan,
I would be there in person, but for family emergency in rural Alaska.
I deeply appreciate the opportunity to be heard under the circumstances.
I have personally had the privilege of working with AVAS, as well as many private 501c3 Rescues and Shelters throughout California and the US. I only include this because I have spent much of my life in Shelters & Private 501c3 rescue.
I am deeply disturbed that I have witnessed these campaigns, many times. More disturbing when it is a Shelter that has and does conduct themselves in a professional deeply compassionate manner, contrary to the fictional narrative & outright lies represented as reality.
The subversive narrative and misdirected mob mentality that has been presented against AVAS is unfounded, misdirected, and a false narrative.
I stand with AVAS and hope the Town Council continue supporting the staff and the jobs that they do.
When groups require creation of false narrative and lies to emotionally manipulate people to join their protest, it is personal rather than a movement that has positive outcome, partnership, and welfare as the goal.
These individual(s) and some rescue groups have hidden the fact that animals they “rescue” have gone missing, transfer to multiple individuals and have been picked up in animal cruelty cases in other communities. They are violating the principals of Animal Rescue.
Many involved in this narrative, do not even know where Apple Valley is, let alone been in the Shelter. They are on the other side of the country.
That is highly suspect as a political agenda, not Animal Welfare.
The resources taken from the Shelter system to address the unfounded and damaging fiction~ is at the expense of SBOC, AVAS, the community and most direly, the animals served.
AVAS is facing the particularly difficult challenge of high population from outside the city AVAS serves.
This smear campaign has surpassed discord, and has a tangible damaging toll.
I stand with AVAS, and hope the city and county engage further to protect this vital city service, and the employees thereof.
Very Truly,
S. Singleton-Duncan
