Hello,
Please consider the following:
1. Improve the shelter- with over a 90% kill rate, thousands of innocent and healthy cats and kittens are killed here every year. They are labeled “Rescue Only” and killed after only a few days.
2. Modify the leash law to exclude cats- this would prevent over-flooding of the shelter and help protect family pets.
3. Create a TNR program- “Trap, Neuter and Release” programs are proven to be costeffective and beneficial to curbing colony numbers, limiting unnecessary deaths due to overbreeding and flooding of shelters in the area.
4. Offer free or cost-effective spay and neuter services to residents. Cat owners are more likely to spay and neuter their pets when the service is affordable, leading to fewer kittens during mating season, less cats roaming the area, and fewer cats in shelter.
I believe the above would prove viable solutions to the current situation.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Ambrozej
