CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
MEETING DATE: December 9, 2024 ITEM NO: 7A.
TO: Mayor and Members of the City Council
SUBJECT: November 5, 2024 Election Results
FROM: Jennifer Alderete, City Clerk
REVIEWED AND APPROVED BY:
Melissa Burke, Deputy City Manager
HongDao Nguyen, City Attorney
Abel Avalos, City Manager
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff Recommends that the City Council adopt Resolution No. 24-3021, Reciting the Facts of the General Municipal Election Consolidated with the Statewide General Election Held on November 5, 2024, Declaring the Results and Such Other Matters as Provided by Law.
BACKGROUND:
At its June 17, 2024 Regular Adjourned Meeting, the City Council adopted resolutions calling an election to elect two (2) members of the City Council; consolidating the election, with the County of Los Angeles on Tuesday, November 5, 2024; and requesting the County to conduct the election and the canvass of votes. At its April 8, 2024 Regular Meeting, and July 29, 2024 Special Meeting, the City Council adopted resolutions to place Measures AAA and Measure I respectively on the ballot.
ANALYSIS:
A General Municipal Election was held in the City of Artesia on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, consolidated with the Statewide General Election for the purposes of election of City Council Members and for City voters to consider ballot Measure AAA and Measure I. The County of Los Angeles Registrar of Voters has completed the canvass of the results and the appropriate Resolution has been prepared for adoption, which is attached to this Report. The results are attached as Exhibit “A” to the above entitled Resolution.
As a result of the election, the following candidates were elected:
Zeel Ahir for Member of City Council for a term of four years; Monica Manalo for Member of City Council for a term of four years.
Further, a majority of City voters:
Did approve Measure AAA and it was, therefore, passed;
Did not approve Measure I and it was, therefore, not passed.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
The proposed action pertains to the organizational activities of the City and does not constitute a “project” under the California Environmental Quality Act (“CEQA”), and it can be seen with certainty that it will have no impact on the environment. Thus, this matter is exempt under CEQA.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this report.
RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:
Staff Recommends that the City Council adopt Resolution No. 24-3021, Reciting the Facts of the General Municipal Election Consolidated with the Statewide General Election Held on November 5, 2024, Declaring the Results and Such Other Matters as Provided by Law.
