Pursuant to provisions of the Brown Act, no action may be taken on a matter unless it is listed on the agenda, or unless certain emergency or special circumstances exist. The City Council may direct staff to investigate and/or schedule certain matters for consideration at a future City Council meeting.
Public Comment: The City of Artesia encourages community participation at its public meetings. Speakers are limited to three minutes, and time may not be shared or transferred. At regular meetings, comments may address both agenda and non-agenda items during the Public Comment portion, with additional opportunities to speak provided during Public Hearings. At special meetings, public comment is limited to agenda items.
The public can participate in the following ways:
In Person: Sign up to speak by filling out a speaker card with the City Clerk.
Written Comments: May be submitted via email at [email protected] before 8:30 a.m. on the date of the meeting. These emails will be provided to City Council and made available for public review.
Americans with Disabilities Act: In compliance with the ADA, if you need special assistance to participate in a City meeting or other services offered by this City, please contact the City Clerk’s department, (562) 865-6262. Assisted listening devices are available at this meeting. Ask the City Clerk if you desire to use this device. Upon request, the agenda and documents in the agenda packet can be made available in appropriate alternative formats to persons with a disability. Notification of at least 48 hours prior to the meeting or time when services are needed will assist the City staff in assuring that reasonable arrangements can be made to provide accessibility to the meeting or service.
Levine Act Notice: The City Council is required to comply with the Levine Act (Government Code § 84308) to prevent public officials from being influenced by campaign contributions from parties and other financially interested persons appearing before them and to prevent officials from using their position of authority to unduly influence applicants to make contributions to campaigns. The Levine Act only applies to certain matters, including permits, licenses, some contracts, and other entitlements for use, while these matters are pending and for 12 months after a decision has been made. Council members who need to recuse themselves from an agenda item may provide notice at any time during the Council meeting before consideration of the item.
