Proclamation
IN RECOGNITION OF ELIZABETH GLIKBARG’S 50 YEARS OF
SERVICE AS CHAIR OF THE MENLO CHARITY HORSE
SHOW
WHEREAS, the Menlo Charity Horse Show began 50 years ago with Elizabeth “Betsy” Glikbarg co-chairing; and
WHEREAS, the Menlo Charity Show was so successful the Menlo Circus Club decided to continue it on an annual basis; and
WHEREAS, under Betsy’s leadership and the support of many others, the Menlo Charity Horse Show which began as a way to raise funds to repair the stables was so successful it rose to national prominence; and
WHEREAS, the Menlo Charity Horse Show has attained national recognition becoming a United States Equestrian Federation Heritage Horse show; and
WHEREAS, the Menlo Charity Horse Show has been inducted into the National Horse Show Hall of Fame and has funded the refurbishment of the Equestrian Center at the Club; and WHEREAS, the proceeds of the show now go to assist the Vista Center for the Blind and Visually impaired; and
WHEREAS, the Club has recently dedicated the Equestrian Center and barn to Betsy for her continued devotion and work on the annual horse show from inception through the last 50 years; and
NOW, THEREFORE, as Mayor of the Town of Atherton, and on behalf of the Atherton City Council, I hereby recognize an outstanding citizen of Atherton, Elizabeth “Betsy” Glikbarg for her tireless work in organizing this event and bringing thousands of visitors and world class equestrians to Town.
