Proclamation
IN RECOGNITION OF CONGRESSWOMAN ANNA ESHOO FOR
OUTSTANDING SUPPORT OF ATHERTON
WHEREAS, Congresswoman Eshoo, elected in 1992, was the first woman Democrat to represent California’s 16th Congressional District and in her career as a congresswoman, her body of work included more than 60 bills signed into law; and
WHEREAS, Congresswoman Eshoo has lived in and supported the Atherton community, including working with at least 71 Atherton students through the 16th Congressional District Student Advisory Board, Congressional Art Competition, and Congressional App Challenge; and
WHEREAS, Congresswoman Eshoo has supported Atherton’s sustainability efforts through green legislation, as well as working on over 300 cases for Atherton residents; and WHEREAS, the Congresswoman has been a champion for Atherton and all of San Mateo County. She has celebrated important accomplishments, protected us in the face of disasters, such as wildfires and floods, and helped the Town secure needed funds for Capital Improvements for drainage and traffic support:
WHEREAS, Congresswoman Eshoo has worked to improve Atherton directly by electrifying Caltrain to improve air quality in Atherton, and reduce airplane noise in the community aided Atherton in securing millions in funding for much needed flood mitigation improvements to the Upper Atherton Channel; and WHEREAS, Congresswoman Eshoo has helped the Town and Caltrans improve the traffic safety of Atherton along the Alameda de las Pulgas and El Camino Real corridors by helping to raise the necessary funds for these improvements. Anna’s secret sauce is that she has the skill of making everyone she interacts with feel special and listened to. Her passion for the youth in our communities has influenced us all for the better for the last thirtyfive years; and NOW, THEREFORE, as Mayor of the Town of Atherton, and on behalf of the Atherton City Council, recognize the many contributions of the Congresswoman noting that no one has works harder for their constituents. The Town will never be able to adequately thank her for all that she has done for this jurisdiction.
I hereby proclaim Congresswoman Anna Eshoo as an outstanding member of the Atherton community, both for her work in the US House of Representatives and in the Town of Atherton.
