2. CONSIDERATION AND DISCUSSION OF AN ORDINANCE TO REVISE THE ATHERTON MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 15.19.30 REACH CODES.
Report: CHRISTABEL SORIA MENDOZA, MANAGEMENT ANALYST I
Recommendation: Staff recommends that the City Council review and discuss an Ordinance making amendments to Chapter 15.19 of the Atherton Municipal Code to enhance electricready requirements for new construction and major alterations, and provide policy direction on outdoor gas appliances currently exempt from these provisions. Staff is seeking Council feedback and direction.
Description: During a February 26, 2024, Study Session, the City Council reviewed two options for enhancing sustainability standards: the Energy Performance approach, which focused on decarbonizing buildings while allowing natural gas appliances, and the Electric Readiness approach, which requires installing electrical infrastructure to prepare for future electrification; Council supported the Electric Readiness approach due to its flexibility, simpler implementation, and fewer regulatory hurdles.
