Dear Atherton city council,
It looks like you are planning to review the HPP pickleball program in your meeting on Wednesday, July
16. I am a frequent user of the courts, and may not be able to attend the meeting, so am including my suggestion here:
1. Courts: The cheapest short-term solution to adding courts would be to turn tennis court 1 into 4 pickleball courts. Just by looking at the scheduling app, you can tell there is demand for more courts.
2. Pickleball instruction: Rather than allow Player Capital to run instruction for pickleball, (there is less interest in instruction, and the people who want to take lessons are adults, capable of selecting their own coaches), please allow outside pickleball instructors (subject to insurance rules, etc.) and adopt a model where instructors can't book courts but keyholders can, with the option to include an instructor at their discretion. This seems simple and preferable to designating set hours where instruction is allowed or giving instructors access to book courts first as is the case with the tennis program.
Thank you for soliciting input on the pickle ball courts. It's a fabulous new addition to the park.
