BACKGROUND
The City Council approved a Capital Improvement Project for the installation of pedestrian crossing improvements at the Alameda de las Pulgas / Stockbridge Avenue intersection, including the installation of a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at the intersection. The intersection is shared jurisdictionally with the County of San Mateo. The Town issued a Task Order to Interwest Consulting Group for the preparation of the project design documents, and the Town coordinated with the County of San Mateo regarding the proposed improvements within their jurisdiction.

The project design includes installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at the existing curb ramps on the north leg of the intersection, advance warning signage, a new crosswalk with yield markings, and other associated improvements. The advance warning signage in the northbound direction will include activated LED lights that will flash, when activated, to advise oncoming traffic regarding the pedestrian crossing ahead. The southbound advance signage will not be activated, per County’s request.
