MEETING DATE: September 23, 2024 AGENDA CATEGORY: NEW BUSINESS TO: Budget, Finance and Economic Development Committee
FROM: Darin Budak, Acting Recreation and Parks Director DATE: September 18, 2024
SUBJECT: Proposed Increase of Park Development and Improvement Fee
All Wards
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the Budget, Finance and Economic Development Committee refer the proposed increase in the Park Development and Improvement Fee to full Council for approval.
BACKGROUND:
This report is a follow-up to Council from July 24, 2024 presentation regarding the City’s Park Development and Improvement Fee (Fee). These Fees are assessed for each building permit that is issued for new construction residential unit. Staff was requested to provide recommendations based on current construction environment for new parks. Staff recommends that the Fee be increased from the current $2,095.00 per residential unit to $3,142.00 per residential unit.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Park Develop ment and Improvement Fee is collected for future park sites within new residential tracts. The increase in the fee will help reduce funding gaps that currently occur in new park construction.
