ADMINISTRATIVE REPORT

MEETING DATE: January 22, 2025 AGENDA CATEGORY: Consent - Miscellaneous TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Zachary Meyer, Public Works Director
DATE: December 30, 2024
SUBJECT: Appropriate $458,142 of Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program grant funds
within the Public Works Department Capital Improvement Program budget in the Federal/State Road Fund for the Adaptive Signal Coordination Capital Improvement Project on Ashe Road from Panama Lane to Club View Drive. (Wards 6 & 7)

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of the appropriation.

BACKGROUND:

The City received Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) grant funding totaling $458,142 from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration for the Adaptive Signal Coordination Capital Improvement Project (CIP) on Ashe Road from Panama Lane to Club View Drive.

This project will upgrade the existing traffic signal system along the project boundaries to allow for enhanced synchronization between signals and real-time adaptive timing adjustments to each signal.

This will allow for steadier flows of traffic and reduction of vehicle congestion. This reduction in congestion will reduce emissions that come from vehicles that currently have to stop and start more frequently, and from idling at intersections.

A new project number will be created for this CIP project.

FISCAL IMPACT:
$458,142 of the CMAQ grant funding will be allocated to the Public Works Department’s Capital Improvement Program in the Federal/State Road Fund. There is no impact to the General Fund.

COUNCIL GOAL:

Reliable Infrastructure
