SUBJECT: Accept bid and approve contract to Midstate Sheetmetal, Inc. ($131,150) for City Corp Yard Building B Re-roof.
1. Accept bid from Midstate Sheetmetal, Inc., Bakersfield, CA, ($131,150) for the City Corp Yard Building B Re-roof.
2. Reserve contingency funds in the amount of $20,000 for a total budget amount of $151,150.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommend acceptance of bid and approval of contract.
BACKGROUND:
Bids were solicited to refurbish the roof of building B located at the city corporation yard. Six bids were received in response to the solicitation.
The existing roof for building B is a composition roof that is over 40 years old and in need of refurbishment.
Due to its current condition, interior areas are adversely affected during inclement weather such as rain.
Additionally, City staff must avoid stepping on heavily saturated areas of the roof to prevent the risk of falling through, which presents a safety hazard for City staff.
If approved, $131,150 will be allocated to the solicited project as per the low bid submitted by Midstate Sheetmetal, Inc. The remaining $20,000 will be contingency funds to fund the cost of related expenses such as City inspection fees and unforeseen additional work.

Staff find the bid submitted by Midstate Sheetmetal, Inc., in Bakersfield, CA, to be acceptable and recommend approval of the contract in the amount of $131,150.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds are budgeted within the Public Works Capital Outlay Fund for this project. Therefore, no additional allocation of General Funds are being requested for this project.
