A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF
BAKERSFIELD TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE U.S.
DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL
JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT PROGRAM IN THE
AMOUNT OF $134,968.
WHEREAS, the United States Congress has authorized the Edwar d Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant per statute: “Omnibus Crim e Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, as amended, Title I: 42 U.S.C 3751 (a): Crime Control Act of 1990, Public Law 101- 647”; and
WHEREAS the Bureau of Justice Assistance of the U.S. Depart ment of Justice administers the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assis tance Grant Program to provide funds to units of local government to underwrite pr ojects to reduce crime and improve public safety; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield has applied for and has been awarded $134,968 from the 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assista nce Grant Program to design and repair the Bakersfield Police Departments Explosive Ordnance Disposal Robot (EOD Robot); and
WHEREAS the City Council of Bakersfield accepts and approv es the grant terms and required certifications and assurances, as described in Exhibit “A” attached herein.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows:
1. The above recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by reference.
2. The Council of the City of Bakersfield authorizes the City Manager to accept the 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.
3. The Police Department is hereby authorized and empowered to execute in the name of the City of Bakersfield, all necessary cont racts, payment requests, agreements, and amendments thereto for the purpose of securing grant funds, implementing and carrying out the purposes specified in the grant application, and drawing down grant funds as necessary.
