SUBJECT: Appropriate and transfer $99,320 Sewer Enterprise Fund balance to the Public Works Department’s Operating Budget within the Equipment Management Fund to fund the purchase of one water jetter truck for the Streets Division within the Public Works Department.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of the appropriation and purchase.
BACKGROUND:
On May 14, 2025, Council adopted Resolution No. 043-2025 to dispense with formal bidding procedures for the purchase of a water jetter truck from E.M. Tharp Inc., dba Golden State Peterbilt pursuant to Bakersfield Municipal Code section 3.20.060(D)(6), based on use of cooperative procurement contract pricing.
Staff desire s to purchase an additional water jetter truck from E.M. Tharp Inc. pursuant to the same cooperative procurement contract No. 032824 -PMC previously approved by Council for the Streets Division within the Public Works Department to replace an existing unit that is more than 16 years old and meets the criteria for replacement as determined by Fleet staff. The unit will be replaced with a new unit providing improved performance and efficiency . The previously approved resolution has been at tached for reference. Accordingly, staff seeks Council action to approve the additional appropriation for the purchase.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds in the amount of $425,000 have been included in the Fiscal Year 2025 -26 budget for this replacement. An appropriation and transfer in the amount of $99,320 Sewer Enterprise Fund balance to the Public Works Department’s Operating budget within the Equipment Management Fund will be necessary to complete the purchase.
