I have extensive experience in labor representation, community organizing, and leadership development through my work in multiple unions. As a Shop Steward with UWUA Local 132, I’ve received training in contract enforcement, workplace safety, conflict resolution, and effective communication. My role as Young Workers Committee Chair has given me additional experience in event coordination, public speaking, volunteer management, and youth leadership development. As an Organizing Steward with IBEW Local 1245, I gained hands-on experience in campaign organizing, outreach strategy, and coalition building. I have also participated in civic engagement efforts, including supporting local elections, community programs, and charitable initiatives throughout Bakersfield. These combined experiences have strengthened my ability to collaborate, problem-solve, and advocate for the public—skills that translate directly to serving on a city board or commission.

Previous and present governmental and civic experience. Indicate when, position and duties Executive Board Member – Kern, Inyo & Mono Counties Central Labor Council (Present) Duties: Provide leadership and strategic direction for regional labor initiatives, support affiliated unions, participate in policy discussions affecting working families, and engage in community-based outreach and advocacy.

Shop Steward – UWUA Local 132 (Previous Term)
Duties: Represent members in workplace matters, ensure contract compliance, assist with resolving disputes, promote safety and communication, and serve as a liaison between workers and management.

Young Workers Committee Chair – UWUA Local 132 (Previous Term) Duties: Organize young worker engagement, develop leadership opportunities, coordinate volunteer events, and advocate for the needs and perspectives of early- career members.

Organizing Steward – IBEW Local 1245 (Current)
Duties: Support organizing campaigns, assist with outreach to new and existing members, participate in community service efforts, and promote worker solidarity across industries.

Community Volunteer – Various Local Events (Ongoing)
Duties: Participate in community cleanups, food distributions—including major Thanksgiving and holiday events—and other local service projects designed to support families and strengthen neighborhoods.

Please explain why you wish to serve on a Board/Commission for the City of Bakersfield 3/3
I wish to serve on a Board/Commission for the City of Bakersfield because my experience in the labor movement has shown me the impact that strong civic engagement can have on working families and our community as a whole. Through my roles as a Shop Steward and Young Workers Committee Chair for UWUA 132, as well as an Organizing Steward with IBEW 1245 and a member of the Executive Board of the Kern, Inyo & Mono Counties Central Labor Council, I’ve spent years advocating for fairness, safety, and opportunity for workers. My public service has also included volunteering in community outreach, supporting local events, and participating in efforts that uplift underserved residents. Serving on a city board or commission is a natural extension of that work. I want to bring a working-class perspective, strong problem- solving skills, and a genuine commitment to helping Bakersfield grow in a way that supports all of its residents.

Please explain why you wish to serve on a Board/Commission for the City of Bakersfield 3/4
I am seeking the opportunity to serve because I believe in the values of community engagement, volunteerism, and civic duty as well as what those can bring to a community. As a long-time attorney, I have spent my career analyzing complex issues, balancing competing interests, and helping organizations operate with transparency, accountability, and sound governance. Those are skills I am excited to bring to a role that directly strengthens the City of Bakersfield.

Bakersfield’s parks, recreation programs, and community facilities play a vital role in supporting healthy families, fostering community connections, and building a vibrant city for future generations. As a parent of two young children who are active in athletics and recreation, I see firsthand how important these programs and spaces are—not only in supporting physical well-being, but in giving children safe environments to learn teamwork, confidence, and resilience. This personal connection motivates me to ensure that all Bakersfield families have access to diverse, inclusive, and well-run recreational opportunities.

My prior board service and volunteer involvement coupled with my profession and prior representation of public entities have shown me how effective governance can elevate an organization’s impact. I understand the responsibilities that come with serving on a board, including stewardship of resources, adherence to public meeting laws, and working collaboratively with staff and community members. I am particularly interested in contributing to strategic planning, long-term capital improvements, and community engagement efforts.

In addition to my legal training, I bring experience in organizational oversight, risk management, and community advocacy—all of which align with the needs of a strong Parks and Recreation board member. I am also committed to listening to diverse perspectives, supporting data-informed decision-making, and approaching challenges with both practicality and creativity.

Ultimately, I wish to serve because I care deeply about Bakersfield’s future, and I believe that thriving parks and recreation programs are foundational to a thriving community.

Contributing my skills, experience, and passion to this work would be both a privilege and a meaningful way to give back to the city my family calls home.

Do you have any interests or associations which might present a conflict of interest? If yes, please explain No, not that I am aware of.

Please explain why you wish to serve on a Board/Commission for the City of Bakersfield I wish to continue to serve on the North of the River Recreation and Parks District (NOR) Board of Directors because I am committed to strengthening the quality of life for residents in the City of Bakersfield. Recreation and parks are essential to building healthy, connected, and vibrant communities, and I believe the NOR District plays a crucial role in delivering those opportunities to families, youth, and adults across our region.

I am motivated to contribute my time and experience toward ensuring that our parks, community centers, and recreational programs continue to grow, remain accessible, and reflect the needs of the diverse communities they serve. As Bakersfield expands, thoughtful planning and stewardship of our recreational resources are more important than ever. I want to help guide that growth in a way that prioritizes safety, inclusivity, sustainability, and long-term community benefit.

Serving on the Board would give me the opportunity to collaborate with local leaders, listen to community voices, and help shape policies and programs that positively impact physical wellness, youth development, neighborhood engagement, and environmental preservation. I am eager to contribute constructive ideas, support responsible budgeting, and advocate for amenities and programs that families rely on every day.

Ultimately, I want to serve because I care deeply about this community and believe that strong parks and recreation systems are foundational to a thriving Bakersfield. I welcome the chance to help advance that mission as part of the NOR Recreation and Parks District Board of Directors.
