I have extensive experience in labor representation, community organizing, and leadership development through my work in multiple unions. As a Shop Steward with UWUA Local 132, I’ve received training in contract enforcement, workplace safety, conflict resolution, and effective communication. My role as Young Workers Committee Chair has given me additional experience in event coordination, public speaking, volunteer management, and youth leadership development. As an Organizing Steward with IBEW Local 1245, I gained hands-on experience in campaign organizing, outreach strategy, and coalition building. I have also participated in civic engagement efforts, including supporting local elections, community programs, and charitable initiatives throughout Bakersfield. These combined experiences have strengthened my ability to collaborate, problem-solve, and advocate for the public skills that translate directly to serving on a city board or commission.

Previous and present governmental and civic experience. Indicate when, position and duties Executive Board Member – Kern, Inyo & Mono Counties Central Labor Council (Present) Duties: Provide leadership and strategic direction for regional labor initiatives, support affiliated unions, participate in policy discussions affecting working families, and engage in community-based outreach and advocacy.

Shop Steward – UWUA Local 132 (Previous Term)
Duties: Represent members in workplace matters, ensure contract compliance, assist with resolving disputes, promote safety and communication, and serve as a liaison between workers and management.

Young Workers Committee Chair – UWUA Local 132 (Previous Term) Duties: Organize young worker engagement, develop leadership opportunities, coordinate volunteer events, and advocate for the needs and perspectives of early- career members.

Organizing Steward – IBEW Local 1245 (Current)
Duties: Support organizing campaigns, assist with outreach to new and existing members, participate in community service efforts, and promote worker solidarity across industries.

Community Volunteer – Various Local Events (Ongoing)
Duties: Participate in community cleanups, food distributions including major Thanksgiving and holiday events and other local service projects designed to support families and strengthen neighborhoods.

Please explain why you wish to serve on a Board/Commission for the City of Bakersfield 3/3
I wish to serve on a Board/Commission for the City of Bakersfield because my experience in the labor movement has shown me the impact that strong civic engagement can have on working families and our community as a whole. Through my roles as a Shop Steward and Young Workers Committee Chair for UWUA 132, as well as an Organizing Steward with IBEW 1245 and a member of the Executive Board of the Kern, Inyo & Mono Counties Central Labor Council, I’ve spent years advocating for fairness, safety, and opportunity for workers. My public service has also included volunteering in community outreach, supporting local events, and participating in efforts that uplift underserved residents. Serving on a city board or commission is a natural extension of that work. I want to bring a working-class perspective, strong problem- solving skills, and a genuine commitment to helping Bakersfield grow in a way that supports all of its residents.

Do you have any interests or associations which might present a conflict of interest? If yes, please explain no

I am hopeful to bring a variety of specialized training, leadership recognitions, and civic accomplishments that strengthen my ability to contribute meaningfully to the committee.

I am a recipient of the UCLA Chancellor’s Leadership Service Award (2025), one of UCLA’s highest honors for graduating students who demonstrate exceptional commitment to sustained community service and leadership. I was also recognized with the California Secretary of State’s 2022 Ballot Bowl Award, presented by Secretary Dr.

Shirley Weber, for leading Bakersfield College’s top-performing student voter registration initiative as part of the statewide registration competition drive.

As a student my research experience includes co-authoring a published report on Asian American voter engagement as a Civic Engagement Research Fellow with CAUSE, presented at the California State Capitol. Additionally, I contributed policy analysis to the Institute for Security Studies in South Africa, where my evaluation of the SAPS Gender Equity Strategy was cited in internal government reports.

I have completed leadership and professional training, including CliftonStrengths Leadership Certification (Gallup) and over 100 hours of UCLA Academic Advising, Policy, and Student Support Training through UCLA New Students & Transition Programs. I also contributed to the Bakersfield College Educational Master Plan (2023–2028), collaborating with faculty and staff to develop long-term strategic goals for student success and institutional growth.

Previous and present governmental and civic experience. Indicate when, position and duties Before serving as a community youth organizer, where I lead civic engagement and youth service programs across Bakersfield, I worked as a Community Engagement Intern for the City of Irvine, supporting public outreach events, forums, and community meetings.

Internationally, I served as a Human Rights Consultant Intern for the Institute for Security Studies (Cape Town, South Africa). In this role, I analyzed the South African Police Service Gender Equity Strategy (2019–2024), evaluated public-sector policy implementation, and recommended reforms aimed at improving leadership pathways, accountability, and equity within a major governmental institution. This experience gave me firsthand insight into government operations, public safety policy, and community- centered reform.

At UCLA, I served as a Student Representative on the Academic Senate, advocating for international and underrepresented students, and as a Community Representative on the UCLA De Neve Towers Government Council, representing over 1,600 residents and helping secure funding for community initiatives.

I have also worked as a Civic Engagement Research Fellow with CAUSE, contributing data and policy analysis presented to elected officials at the California State Capitol. My roles across civic spaces have focused on public participation, community improvement, and inclusive decision-making.

Please explain why you wish to serve on a Board/Commission for the City of Bakersfield As of 5 years ago, I called Bakersfield home. This is a place that has given me so much opportunity, and laid the foundation for my goals and dreams, and I wish to play an active role in giving back. My aim is to strengthen our neighborhoods and improve the shared spaces that we all rely on. Keeping Bakersfield Beautiful is essential to bringing all walks of life together through collective grit and pride, and by being able to serve on the board it would allow me to contribute a voice which represents all other voices.

There's a really beautiful saying that I've heard over the years: "a society grows great when its people plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit" and I think this is true when it comes to so many beautification projects, but most especially to Bakersfield. A lot of what I see happening in this wonderful community is through the hard work and dedication of volunteers, business folks, educators, parents, doctors and many more who are fueled by nothing other than principles of passion which is to make everything better and brighter for those around them. Such values that we as a community carry with us must resonate with all, and my goal is to bring in more younger people into the arena of taking care and pride in our environment through environmental stewardship, providing sustainability education and more efforts in all of our wards.

Do you have any interests or associations which might present a conflict of interest? If yes, please explain No, I do not have any interests, affiliations, or employment that would present a conflict of interest with this board.
