Supplemental Questions
How did you hear about the Youth Commission?
I heard about the Youth Commission from my former teacher, Mr. Hinojosa.
Why would you like to become a Youth Commissioner
I would like to become a Youth Commissioner because I would like to represent and experience listening to the community and making suggestions that would help give back to them.
What specific youth or community issues would you like to see addressed by the Youth Commission? Do you have any ideas on how the community should address those issues? Near the schools on the east side of Bakersfield, I have come across gas stations that display alcohol very openly, without screening them. I also think there aren't many libraries on the east side of the town, and providing a mobile library would be helpful.
The Youth Commission requires a time commitment from each student. Please list all other commitments you have during the school year (e.g., job, clubs, and sports) and in what ways are you prepared to dedicate time to meet the Commission’s goals? Your extracurricular activities will not disqualify your application.
With the school, I am in five clubs that include, Future Medical Professionals, Mock Trial, Asian Club, Media Productions/ Public Speaking Club, and Helping Hands Club. I am also involved in Golf, Piano, National History Day, and Classical Music.
In order to have a valuable experience on the Youth Commission, it is important to have the support from a teacher or school administrator from your current high school. This person shall serve in a mentorship role throughout your term on the Youth Commission. Please identify who will serve as your mentor (i.e., name and job title) and provide their contact information (i.e., phone number and email address). Also, please be advised that your mentor must sign the application and submit a letter of recommendation.
Ms.
Is there any additional information that you feel would be helpful in reviewing your qualifications? I have participated in both Science Fair and History Day at the County and State Level competitions. I am confident in presenting to the Public.

To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Tonya Abbott, and I am honored to recommend Sravya Pudipeddi for the City of Bakersfield Youth Commission. I had the privilege of getting to know Sravya during my time as the Director of Admissions at Garces Memorial High School. In that role, I met many prospective students through school visits and on-campus events, but Sravya stood out immediately. I still remember when she was deciding whether to attend Garces — and I was thrilled when she chose to make Garces her home. She embodies everything we hope for in a Garces student.
Since joining our community, Sravya has immersed herself fully—trying new things, building meaningful friendships, and making a genuine effort to serve others. Her academic success speaks for itself, but what impresses me most is her exceptional character. Sravya is one of the most caring, compassionate, and kind young women I have had the pleasure to know. She is a natural leader who leads by example, never seeking recognition, even when it is well deserved. When a task or project requires leadership, she is often the first to step forward—always doing so with humility, grace, and gratitude toward those around her.
Sravya also demonstrates an admirable work ethic in the classroom. She is deeply dedicated to her studies and consistently strives for excellence. She has the rare ability to balance academic rigor with active participation in school life, faith, and service. Sravya understands the importance of cultivating a healthy balance between her personal growth and her contributions to others—a quality that will serve her well on the Youth Commission and beyond.
I cannot think of a more deserving or qualified student for this honor. It is with the utmost confidence that I recommend Sravya Pudipeddi for the City of Bakersfield Youth Commission.
Best regards,
Tonya D. Abbott
