Multi-Modal Transportation & Traffic Safety Committee Bi-Monthly Report February 2026

Projects
The City of Bakersfield Public Works Department is dedicated to proactively identifying, planning, and implementing effective Traffic Calming measures across the City. These initiatives are designed with the goal of enhancing road safety for all users, particularly pedestrians and cyclists, while promoting a safer, more inclusive environment for various modes of transportation. By strategically targeting areas with high traffic volumes and pedestrian activity, the department aims to reduce accidents, improve the overall safety of our roadways, and encourage sustainable transportation options.

The following is a comprehensive list of both current and completed projects, each carefully developed with a focus on multi-modal transportation, traffic safety, and community well-being.

These projects reflect the City’s commitment to creating a balanced and accessible transportation system that meets the needs of all residents, whether they’re traveling by foot, bicycle, car, or public transit. Through these efforts, the Public Works Department strives to foster a safer, more connected, and more resilient community.

A key component of this effort is the ongoing transformation of the Downtown core and Old Town Kern, which serve as a vibrant hub for commerce, culture, and community. By focusing on these strategic initiatives, Public Works aims to build a more sustainable, equitable, and future-ready City for all.
