RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of the change order.

BACKGROUND:

The project generally consists of the replacement of the existing Septage Processing Unit (SPU) at City of Bakersfield Wastewater Treatment Plant No.3 (WWTP #3) with a new Huber RoFAS SPU. In order to install the new SPU, the existing SPU must be removed, and the existing influent and effluent piping must be reconfigured to accommodate the footprint change. The existing electrical system will be modified to ensure the new SPU has adequate po wer. Work is also required to incorporate the instrum entation integral to the SPU, into the existing control and monitoring system.

Change Order No.1 provides for electrical revisions to the new Septage Processing Unit. During the installation of the ne w Septage Processing Unit, several specified conduit runs that provide power and communication to the new unit were found to be undersized for the specified load capacity. Per the City's response to RFI #9, four 4” conduit runs, and four larger junction boxes are required to accommodate the larger conduits and conductor cable. The contractor agrees to do the above-mentioned work for the lump sum price of $54,945.85.

In addition, t he contractor agrees to provide a credit to the City in the amou nt of ($8,816.28.) as compensation for the labor and materials savings resulting for the elimination of scope of work associated with RFI#9. This contract change order results in an net increase of $46,129.57.
