BAKERSFIELD POLICE

MEMORANDUM

The Bakersfield Police Department partners with our community to protect the lives and property of the people we serve.

Compassion • Accountability • Professionalism

To: Randy McKeegan, Finance Director

From: Jeremy Blakemore, Assistant Chief of Police

Date: March 20, 2026

Subject: Sale Request of Surplus Police Equipment to City of California City

The Bakersfield Police Department utilizes electronic control weapons, also known as tasers, to minimize higher levels of force and potential injury during encounters with combative individuals. The department has recently transitioned to a newer model, the Taser 10, which increases effectiveness and safety for officers and community members. The previous model, Taser 7, has no trade-in or other monetary value for the department.

The City of California City Police Department has recently requested to obtain a portion of our Taser 7 surplus as the devices can still be useful for their agency needs. As part of our ongoing partnerships with other countywide law enforcement agencies, the Bakersfield Police Department seeks to sell twenty (20) Taser 7 devices and associated hardware for the cost of $1.00. Approval of this request will not have any adverse fiscal impact to the City of Bakersfield. Upon transfer, the City of California City will assume all future responsibilities with the maintenance and ownership.
