Dear Lieutenant Haskins,
This letter is to confirm that Driver Training Solutions (DTS) is the sole provider and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of the PatrolSim8 (PS8) Law Enforcement Driving Simulator. The PatrolSim8 platform incorporates multiple unique capabilities and features that are not available in any other law enforcement driving simulator.
The Driver Training Solutions PatrolSim8 Law Enforcement Driving Simulator is the only simulator that includes all the following capabilities:
• Unreal Engine Graphics: Only L3Harris Driver Training Solutions uses Unreal Engine, providing the most realistic driving environment available. Enhanced visual fidelity reduces Simulator Adaptation Syndrome (SAS) and improves immersion, leading to superior training outcomes. • LCD Vehicle Glass Dash: Fully virtual dashboard that accurately replicates selected law enforcement vehicles.
• Real-World Drive Motion 3-DOF Platform: A full-motion system that moves independently of the visual displays to replicate a stationary horizon with internally moving components. Features a fully detachable seat base and 3rd-generation D-BOX motion technology.
• Interchangeable Seat Base: Allows seamless transitioning between training applications—including trucking, law enforcement, fire, EMS, municipal, sanitation, and bus—without changing the VDU configuration.
• Student Glass Dash Interface: Enables scenario and vehicle selection directly from the simulator without using the instructor station.
• Camera and Replay System: Integrated camera for monitoring from the instructor station, with full scenario replay capability.
• Overhead Shroud: Blocks external light to reduce motion sickness and create a realistic patrol-vehicle cabin environment.
• Optional Over-the-Shoulder & Blind-Spot Screens: Two additional mounted screens to enhance backing and blind-spot situational awareness.
• Scenario Builder Software: Proprietary DTS software allowing instructors to create or recreate custom law-enforcement driving scenarios.
• DUI Simulation Capability: Allows officers to safely experience impaired-driving behaviors under controlled conditions.
• MDC Integration: Enables the instructor to act as a dispatcher by sending MDC-style messages from the Instructor Operating Station (IOS) directly to the student display.
• Scenario Library: Includes 120+ pedagogically rigorous scenarios tailored for law enforcement training. • LE Pursuit Curriculum Software: DTS proprietary curriculum designed specifically for law-enforcement pursuit training.
• Multi-Simulator Team Pursuit (POD Concept): Ability to network multiple simulators for joint pursuit scenarios and coordinated team-based training.
• Instructor Vehicle Interface: Allows the instructor to directly control AI vehicles in real time to interact dynamically with the student driver.
• Steering Wheel & Controls: Interceptor steering wheel and authentic law-enforcement vehicle components.
