The City of Bakersfield Public Works Department is committed to identifying, planning, and implementing traffic calming improvements that enhance safety and mobility throughout the community. These initiatives are designed to improve roadway conditions for all users, with particular emphasis on increasing safety and accessibility for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other vulnerable road users.

A significant component of these efforts is the ongoing transformation of the Downtown core and Old Town Kern areas, which serve as important centers for commerce, culture, and community activity. Through these strategic investments and improvement initiatives, the Department seeks to promote a safer, more accessible, sustainable, and resilient community while supporting the City’s long-term growth and development objectives.
