BACKGROUND: The work to be performed consist s, in general, installation of new communication equipment and software along the street corridor segment s; of California Avenue between Mohawk Street and Oak Street, Stockdale Highway between Coffee Road and H Street, and Brundage Lane between Oak Street and Hughes Lane (Interconnect). This communication system over existing fiber communication network will enable transportation professional to proactively manage traffic flow and promote mobility through real -time traffic data collection a nd management tools. New software and signal controller units will allow for optimal signal timing across arterial network by adjusting cycle lengths, phases splits, and offsets based on prevailing traffic.

Change Order No. 1 provides for performing work inside the controller cabinet. During construction it was discovered that five intersections require copper Etherwan 3675 switches. These switches are necessary to ensure proper communication between the newly installed fiber-optic sections and the existing copper- wire infrastructure. The contractor agrees to do the above-mentioned work for the lump sum price of $16,928.67

Also, prior to construction, 14 existing pull boxes were found to be too small to fit the new 48 count single mode fiber optic cable with minimum bend radius and slack storage required per project specifications .

The contractor agrees to remove the existing pull boxes, dispose of all debris offsite, install 14 No. 5 pul l boxes with concrete collars for the lump sum price of $53,031.77.

Finally, Change Order No.1 also covers the existing 2 -inch conduit run that was found damaged and/or obstructed at various locations. The contractor agrees to remove existing concrete sidewalk panels as needed to make conduit repairs and replace removed sidewalk for the lump sum price of $20,267.90.
