RECOMMENDATION:

BACKGROUND:
The work to be performed consists, in general of procuring and installing one diesel powered generator at the City Hall North parking lot. Other work items include construction of concrete pad for the generator, block wall enclosure, solid steel gate, electrical connections, appurtenances, permitting (Building and Air Pollution Control Boards) and other items as necessary to have a full turnkey operation.
Change Order No.4 provides for supplying a temporary backup generator to provide power to City Hall North during the time PG&E will transfer from the existing service to the new service location. The contractor agrees to do the above-mentioned work for the lump sum price of $24,708.00.
In addition, during construction it was necessary to maintain vehicular access to the alley behind City Hall North. The contractor agrees to provide the necessary steel plates to provide alley access for the lump sum price of $11,778.68
Finally, during a rainstorm, heavy flow from the adjacent gutter caused the partial collapse of the trench which destabilized the steel plates covering the trench. In order to maintain safe passage through the alley behind City Hall, the trench must be backfilled and compacted, graded to a smooth surface and then covered with steel plates. The contractor agrees to do the above-mentioned work for the lump sum price of $8,675,21.
