RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A
DEDICATED “KIDS ZONE” CHILDCARE SPACE WITHIN THE
KERN COUNTY COURTHOUSE
WHEREAS, access to the justice system and civic infrastructure is a fundamental right and necessity for all residents of City of Bakersfield; and
WHEREAS, parents and legal guardians frequently must attend the courthouse for vital civic duties, including jury summons, family court proceedings, traffic hearings and obtaining public records; and
WHEREAS, the lack of safe, affordable, and temporary on-site childcare options at the courthouse creates a significant barrier of civic duty for parents and guardians, often forcing them to bring young children into stressful court environments or missing mandatory legal dates; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated “Kids Zone ” inside the courthouse would provide a safe, supportive, and supervised environment for children, allowing parents to focus entirely on their legal and civic responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, while the physical management of the Courthouse falls under the jurisdiction of the County, the well -being, accessibility, and civic participation of Bakersfield residents remains a core priority of this City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield a s follows:
1) The above recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by reference. 2) The City Council hereby officially endorses and supports the creation and implementation of a “Kids Zone”, a temporary childcare space within the Kern County Courthouse.

3) The City Council urges the Kern County Board of Supervisors, Courthouse administrators, and relevant agencies to prioritize funding, space allocation, and logistical approval for this essential community resource. 4) The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a certified Resolution to the Kern County Board of Supervisors and the Courthouse Administrator upon its passage.
