A RESOLUTION RATIFYING THE SUBMISSION OF AN
APPLICATION TO THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION DIVISION OF AERONAUTICS FOR
FUNDING THE CONSTRUCTION AND INSTALLATION OF NEW
AUTOMATED WEATHER OBSER VING SYSTEM AT THE
BAKERSFIELD MUNICIPAL AIRPORT AND AUTHORIZING THE
CITY MANAGER OR DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE ALL NECESSARY
DOCUMENTS TO ACCEPT GRANT FUNDING.
WHEREAS, the City of Bakersfield has applied for an allocation of funds through the California Department of Transportation Division of Aeronautics; and
WHEREAS the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) approved by the Department of Transportation indicates that funding is tentatively available for the installation of a weather reporting/ surveillance equipment at the Bakersfield Municipal Airport; and
WHEREAS, FAA funds will provide 9 5% of funding for project costs with Department of Transportation funds providing up to 5% of the 10% local match requirement with general aviation funds providing the remaining percentage; and
WHEREAS, this allocation of funds is the first step leading to the issuance of a grant offer; and
WHEREAS, grant funds will be used for the installation and construction of a new Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS); and
WHEREAS, although the initial estimate for this project totals $591,925, the total cost may be revised as necessary as work commences.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Bakersfield as follows:
1. The above recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by reference.
2. The City Manager, or his or her designee, is authorized to accept grant funds and execute the grant agreement or any other necessary documents with the Department of Transportation for the AIP Project installing and constructing a new AWOS system.
