PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION TO BARSTOW SUPERSTARS
CHEERLEADING
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will present a certificate of appreciation to Barstow Superstars for their achievements this year and a certificate of appreciate to founder Nicki Duarte who will be retiring in summer 2022.
DISCUSSION:
Barstow Superstars was founded in 2002 by Nicki Duarte and is a cheerleading program offered through the Parks and Recreation Department. The program consists of four teams of 38 girls ranging from ages 4 - 21. The teams have been working on their routines since August 2021 and recently competed in four competitions winning the following awards:
Twelve (12) 1st place trophies, three (3) 2nd place trophies, three (3) overall Grand Champions, and one (1) Most Spirited Award.
Ms. Duarte will be retiring in summer 2022 with her daughters Breanna Ruelas and Alexandria Duarte continuing their mother’s legacy by coaching the Barstow Superstars through the Parks and Recreation Department.
The City Council will be presenting a certificate to Ms. Duarte recognizing her for her contributions to the youth in the community.
