APPROVAL OF LEASE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF BARSTOW AND BARSTOW
UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR STRINGHAM PARK
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council is asked to consider entering into a lease agreement with Barstow Unified School District (BUSD) for Stringham Park (APN 183-601-07). The contemplated lease is attached and titled “BUSD Land Lease Agreement_2022.” The lease agreement would be for a five (5) year period, with an option of two (2) successive five (5) year terms.
DISCUSSION:
The City of Barstow entered into a lease agreement with BUSD on July 1, 2007, for the property identified as APN 183-601-07, Stringham Park. The original lease expired on July 1, 2022. Stringham Park is utilized by citizens of Barstow for sports, activities, events, and public use.
The City entered into negotiations with BUSD for a new lease agreement this year with material terms similar to the lease agreement that expired on July 1, 2022.
The BUSD Board of Trustees approved the lease agreement on November 8, 2022 and staff recommends the City Council approve the updated lease agreement as presented.
Attached is the original 2007 agreement (BUSD Land Lease Agreement - Stringham Park 2007) and the 2022 lease agreement (BUSD - Land Lease Agreement_2022).
FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of the lease agreement is $1 per year. The City will continue to be responsible for the cost of any construction or improvements at Stringham Park as well as the cost of the Park’s maintenance.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Staff recommends the City Council approve the updated Lease Agreement with Barstow Unified School District as presented.
