LEASE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF BARSTOW AND THE BARSTOW SENIOR CITIZEN CENTER
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Barstow Senior Citizen Center’s lease with the City of Barstow for the property at 555 Melissa Avenue expired on November 16, 2019. This agenda item is for the Council to consider the attached “Barstow Senior Citizen Center Lease Agreement 2022” for a single ten (10) year lease for the existing facility for $1 per year.
DISCUSSION:
The Barstow Senior Citizen Center currently occupies the property located at 555 Melissa Avenue and has served the community for over 46 years. The last lease agreement with the Senior Center was dated November 9, 2009, for ten (10) years and expired on November 16, 2019.
The City entered into negotiations with Barstow Senior Citizen Center for a new lease agreement this year with material terms similar to the lease agreement that expired on November 16, 2019.
The Barstow Senior Citizen Center serves area residents and offers invaluable resources to the Barstow Community. The Barstow Senior Citizen program enhances the quality of life for senior citizens through the program and services it provides.
Attached is the original 2009 agreement (Barstow Senior Citizen Center Lease Agreement 2009) and the 2022 lease agreement (Barstow Senior Citizen Center Lease Agreement 2022).
Staff recommends a ten (10) year lease agreement with the Barstow Senior Citizen Center.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The City is responsible for major repairs and maintenance exceeding $1,000.00.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Staff recommends the City Council approve the updated Lease Agreement with Barstow Senior Citizen Center as presented.
