It is the mission of Desert Sanctuary Inc. to:

The mission of the Desert Sanctuary, Inc. is to provide for people in need, including - but not limited to - individuals and families affected by domestic abuse, and to provide a haven safe from violence, a place of temporary refuge.

The purpose of the Community Resource Fair is to connect community members to local resource providers. It is to bring awareness and assistance to those who seek them.

Many times, agencies, even from out of town, are provided with funding to assist Barstow area people and community members are not necessarily aware.

The purpose of the Veteran's Connection is to bring awareness to the veteran and military community about services and resources available to our residents. We will have 50+ vendors, including from our military bases, which will interact with attendees and provide useful information and education about the services they offer.

For the past few years, we have added a "Health Fair" portion. Providers of medical services locally and in the County provide awareness of their services including: medical, dental, vision and chiropractic. At times it is possible to provide some sort of medical exams and tests and perhaps some type of vaccine or prevention service.

Dear Applicant:
we're pleased to tell you we determined you're exempt from federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c) (3). Donors can deduct contributions they make to you under IRC Section 170. You're also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under Section 2055, 2106, or 2522. This letter could help resolve questions on your exempt status. Please keep it for your records.

Organizations exempt under IRC Section 501(c) (3) are further classified as either public charities or private foundations. We determined you're a public charity under the IRC Section listed at the top of this letter.

Based on the information you submitted in your application, we approved your request for reinstatement under Revenue Procedure 2014-11. Your effective date of exemption, as listed at the top of this letter, is retroactive to your date of revocation.

If we indicated at the top of this letter that you're required to file Form 990/990-EZ/990-N, our records show you're required to file an annual information return (Form 990 or Form 990-EZ) or electronic notice (Form 990-N, the e-Postcard). If you don't file a required return or notice for three consecutive years, your exempt status will be automatically revoked.

If we indicated at the top of this letter that an addendum applies, the enclosed addendum is an integral part of this letter.

Dear Sir or Madam:

This letter is in response to your request for a copy of your organization's determination letter.

This letter will take the place of the copy you requested Our records indicate that a determination letter issued in April 1990 granted your organization exemption from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. That letter is still in effect.

Based on information subsequently submitted, we classified your organization as one that is not a private foundation within the meaning of section 509(a) of the Code because it is an organization described in section 509(a)(1) and | 70(b)(1)(A)(vi).

This classification was based on the assumption that your organization's operations would continue as stated in the application. If your organization's sources of support, or its character, method of operations, or purposes have changed, please let us know so we can consider the effect of the change on the exempt status and foundation status of your organization.

Your organization is required to file Form 990, Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax, only if its gross receipts each year are normally more than $25,000. If a return is required, it must be filed by the 15th day of the fifth month after the end of the organization's annual accounting period. The law imposes a penalty of $20 a day, up to a maximum of $10,000, when a return is filed late, unless there is reasonable cause for the delay.

Alt exempt organizations (unless specifically excluded) are liable for taxes under the Federal Insurance Contributions Act (social security taxes) on remuneration of $100 or more paid to each employee during a calendar year. Your organization is not liable for the tax imposed under the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA).

Organizations that are not private foundations are not subject to the excise taxes under Chapter 42 of the Code. However, these organizations are not automatically exempt from other federal excise taxes.

Donors may deduct contributions to your organization as provided in section 170 of the Code Bequests, legacies, devises, transfers, or gifts to your organization or for its use are deductible for federal estate and gift tax purposes if they meet the applicable provisions of sections 2055, 2106, and 2522 of the Code.
