COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM
AGENDA MATTER:
ADOPTION OF ENGINEERING AND TRAFFIC SURVEYS FOR SPEED LIMITS FOR THE CITY'S
LOCAL ROADS AND SAFETY PROGRAM
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Staff is requesting approval to adopt the proposed Engineering and Traffic Survey for Speed Limits prepared by KOA Corporation in developing the City's Local Road and Safety Program.
DISCUSSION:
In 2021, the City Council approved the City Manager to accept a Local Road and Safety Program Grant from the State of California. The LRSP grant totaled $80,000, with the State providing $72,000 and the City contributing $8,000.
The Local Road and Safety Plan (LRSP) enables local and rural agencies to address specific safety requirements within their jurisdictions, aiding in reducing traffic accidents, fatalities, and severe injuries on public roads. Having an LRSP is essential for applying to grant programs like the Highway Safety Improvement Programs (HSIP) and Vision Zero Actions Plans.
KOA was selected for the project and has completed the Speed Study. To finalize the project, the Council needs to accept the recommendation to adjust the current speed limits. The recommended streets are highlighted on page 2 and 3 of the attachment.
Staff has reviewed the proposed changes and recommends approval of the Speed Study.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
