Dear Honorable Mayor, Members of the Barstow City Council and Measure Q Committee, On behalf of the Route 66 Mother Road Museum, I am excited to share that we are planning a Grand Re-Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on March 22, 2025, to celebrate the revitalization of this historic and cherished landmark. This event will not only commemorate the reopening of the museum, but will also serve as a significant community gathering, drawing visitors, vintage car enthusiasts, and dignitaries from across California and beyond.

To ensure the success of this event and maximize its positive impact on the City of Barstow, I respectfully request an allocation of $2,850 from the Measure Q fund to help cover eventrelated costs. These funds will specifically be used for marketing and promotions, an honorary life tribute plaque for Robert Petersen, table linens, and organizational support for vintage car owners participating in the event.

Below is a detailed breakdown of the proposed use of the requested funds:

Itemized Budget Request:

1. Marketing & Promotions – $1,250
o Digital advertising (social media, website, and email campaigns) o Flyer & poster printing for local distribution
o Press release and media outreach to enhance event awareness

2. Honorary Life Tribute Plaque for Robert Petersen – $850 o Custom metal plaque with inscription recognizing Robert Petersen’s contributions to automotive culture and Route 66 heritage
o Presentation Shadow Box

3. Table Linens for Reception Area – $400
o High-quality table linens for guest reception, tables and seating o Rental and cleaning costs

4. Vintage Car Owners' Organizational Support – $350
o Coordination efforts to secure and organize vintage car displays o Signage and logistical materials for designated parking areas This event aligns with Measure Q’s objectives of preserving Barstow’s historical assets, promoting tourism, and fostering economic development through cultural and heritage-driven initiatives. The revitalization of the Route 66 Mother Road Museum will play a pivotal role in reinforcing Barstow’s identity as a premier stop along the historic Route 66 corridor, drawing both national and international visitors.

We appreciate your consideration of this request and look forward to partnering with the City of Barstow to make this event a success. I am happy to provide any additional details or documentation necessary to facilitate the approval process.

Thank you for your time and support.

Sincerely,
Brendan O'Brien
