APPROVAL OF PROPOSED MURAL DESIGNS – MCLB BARSTOW MURAL AT 621 E. MAIN
STREET & EARTH DAY ELECTRICAL BOX MURAL AT THE CORNER OF BARSTOW ROAD AND
VIRGINIA WAY
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Main Street Murals representative(s) will present Council with a mural rendering for approval. The location for the first proposed mural is 621 E. Main Street and the second at the corner of Barstow Rd and Virginia Way.
DISCUSSION:
At the regular City Council Meeting held on November 18, 2024, the City Council approved the renewal of the Public Services Agreement with Main Street Murals for an additional two years.
In accordance with Section 7.2 of the renewed Professional Services Agreement, Main Street Murals is required to present renderings of proposed mural designs to the City Council for review and approval prior to the commencement of any painting activities.
The new agreement also includes an expansion of the program to incorporate murals on City-owned electrical boxes, which will be designed and painted by local students from Barstow School.
The first proposed mural has received design approval from the Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) and is planned for 621 E. Main Street and has obtained written authorization from the property owners at this location.
The second proposed mural is a rendering for a City-owned electrical box located at the intersection of Barstow Road and Virginia Way.
