AWARD OF COMMUNITY PROMOTIONAL FUNDS FOR LIFESTREAM BLOOD BANK EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Community Promotional Fund provides funding and resources for community-based organizations, schools and individuals that develop events and programs to meet new and continuing social and economic needs and trends, promote community collaboration, and/or bring recognition to the community.
DISCUSSION:
LifeStream Blood Bank is requesting an in-kind donation from the City of Barstow in the amount of $8,677.20 to cover venue rental fees for the use of the Harvey House. In addition, the organization is requesting the waiver of all fees associated with event permitting.
The Monthly Barstow Bloodline Blood Drive is scheduled to take place on the second Tuesday of every month at the Harvey House.
The primary and most significant goal of a blood drive is saving lives. Blood donations collected from community members help ensure a sufficient and consistent supply of blood products for patients in need of medical treatments, those injured in accidents, undergoing surgeries, suffering from chronic illnesses, or facing other medical emergencies. Each year, Barstow’s blood drives contribute to saving thousands of lives.
Beyond the lifesaving impact, hosting these blood drives fosters community engagement, builds goodwill, and provides a convenient opportunity for residents to donate blood and support their local blood bank.
The organization’s Community Promotional Fund application are attached for Council review.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Approval of this request would result in an in-kind contribution valued at $8,677.20 for the use of the Harvey House. Additionally, waive all fees associated with the event permitting, which would be charged to the Measure Q Community Promotional Fund Account No. 102.150.542.07.755 in the amount of $8,677.20.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
That the City Council approve in-kind donations, specifically fee waivers totaling $6,000 for the use of the Harvey House, and $2,677.20 for permitting and inspection fees, associated with the Monthly Barstow Bloodline Blood Drives scheduled to occur on the second Tuesday of each month at the Harvey House, for a combined total of $8,677.20.
