EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Community Promotional Fund Application from Barstow Woman's Club requesting $3,000 in financial assistance to help offset the costs of hosting their annual “Spirit of Giving” event, scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Barstow High School. The requested funds will be used to purchase gift cards and essential items to be distributed to individuals and families in need during the holiday season.

DISCUSSION:

The Barstow Woman’s Club, a long-standing nonprofit dedicated to community service, in collaboration with local nonprofit organizations, will host the second annual “Spirit of Giving” event to support residents experiencing financial hardship.

The holiday season places increased financial strain on low-income families, seniors on fixed incomes, and individuals facing housing or food insecurity. This event directly addresses those needs by providing:
 Gift cards for basic necessities
 Essential household items
 Support delivered through partnerships with local nonprofit organizations Last year’s event was highly successful, providing essential items and gift cards to numerous local families. The 2025 event will be held at Barstow High School on December 20, 2025. This collaborative effort helps ensure assistance reaches those most in need while strengthening community partnerships.

The success of last year’s event demonstrates the continued value and importance of this program.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Request for a cash grant award of $3,000 charged to account Measure Q Community Promotional Fund 102.150.542.07.755.
