To Whom It May Concern,
On behalf of the City of Barstow, we are pleased to express our strong support for the proposed Route 66 Musical Road honoring the 250th Anniversary of the United States Marine Corps and the Centennial of Historic Route 66.
The City recognizes the cultural and historical significance of this project and appreciates the leadership of the Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard Association (MCGA) in advancing this meaningful tribute.
Barstow’s heritage is uniquely shaped by both the United States Marine Corps and the legacy of Route 66. For generations, Route 66 has served as a vital link for travelers, service members, and families, playing a foundational role in the development and identity of Barstow and the surrounding High Desert communities. Likewise, the Marine Corps’ longstanding presence in our region—including the renowned Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard, the only mounted color guard in the entire Marine Corps—reflects Barstow’s deep military roots and enduring patriotic spirit.
The proposed musical road, which will play the United States Marine Corps Hymn, offers a creative and symbolic way to honor these two pillars of American history. The City of Barstow believes this project will:
Commemorate the Marine Corps’ 250-year legacy and the Route 66 Centennial Strengthen Barstow’s identity as a patriotic, historical, and military community Provide a unique attraction that enhances tourism and civic pride Celebrate the traditions, service, and cultural heritage that unite our region The City of Barstow proudly supports the continued planning and development of this project and looks forward to its positive contributions to our residents, visitors, veterans, and broader Route 66 communities.
Thank you for your commitment to honoring the United States Marine Corps and amplifying the historic and cultural legacy of Route 66.
Respectfully,
CITY OF BARSTOW
