Youth Community Promotional Fund Application Page 1

1. Why is your organization requesting funding?
We are requesting field fee funds to cover and lower out of pocket costs for our Barstow families. While our coaches and board members are all volunteer, there are still many expenses for youth to play competitive sports. Our organization's objective is to provide a low-cost option to play competitive soccer, so that every kid who wants to play has the opportunity. Paying for field/light rental would add a significant amount to each team's budget.

2. How will this donation benefit your organization and the youth population of Barstow? DCSC was founded on the belief that offering competitive youth soccer at an affordable cost in the city of Barstow would have far-reaching benefits that would go beyond the field, strengthening both the city's youth and its community. By keeping our fees as low as possible for our players, we make soccer inclusive and accessible, regardless of a family's financial situation. This ensures that all Barstow youth-regardless of socioeconomic background--can participate, helping to foster a more united, equitable community. There are some very talented players in our community that would not be able to benefit from playing competitive, year-around agree to all its terms and conditions. I agree that there is a formal process in place to conduct By signing below, I declare that I have read the Youth Community Promotional Fund Policy and background checks on all employees and volunteers who work with persons under the age of 18 years and senior citizens. I understand that an incomplete application will not be accepted and that the organization or applicant will not be considered for funding. A. PROBLEM
a. Player development is stifled and delayed. The current US Soccer landscape has become a toxic and unproductive environment for youth player development.

Families sacrifice significant time and money pursuing greater competitive levels for their children despite the low odds of success. The pay to play system inhibits many talented players from competing at a high level; the leagues becoming exclusive to most players who can afford it. This has a direct impact on the performance of both US Men and Women National Teams as the player pool is significantly diluted before players reach an adult age. A positive soccer culture is also impacted by this environment, having a negative impact on player passion for the game.

B. MISSION:
a. Desert Communities Soccer Club's (our non-profit youth soccer organization est. 1978) purpose is to revolutionize grass roots soccer; our focus is using a home grown approach for player development and reducing costs for players as much as possible. Our youth club is comprised of all volunteer coaches and staff, has zero overhead costs, and does not charge for coaching fees. Current club average for length of time teams have been together with same coach is 6 years.
b. DCSC Pathfinder's purpose is to use UPSL as a platform to showcase our most senior team each year by placing the team in an official Amateur competition.

C. EXECUTION

How Your Donation Helps Desert Communities Soccer Club (DCSC) and Barstow Families Desert Communities Soccer Club was founded to make competitive youth soccer affordable and accessible for all Barstow families. Unlike average Southern California mid-to-high-level clubs, which charge $2,000-$5,000 per player annually, our volunteer-run, nonprofit structure keeps costs minimal, ensuring no family is excluded due to financial barriers.

Donations directly benefit the community by:
• Lowering Costs for Families: While our coaches and board do not charge any fees, there are still costs that can make playing competitive soccer unaffordable for some families. We rely on our community and the city's donations to reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for parents by covering field use, uniforms, referees, equipment, medical supplies, tournament fees, and travel costs. This makes competitive soccer accessible to all, regardless of income. • Providing Year-Round Positive Opportunities: Soccer keeps Barstow youth engaged in a healthy, structured activity that builds discipline, teamwork, and character while keeping them active and safe. • Strengthening Community Bonds: Our club fosters intergenerational mentorship, community service, and civic pride as families rally behind our teams. It also helps put Barstow on the map, as teams travel and compete with others across the region, showcasing the city's talent and community spirit. • Investing in Barstow's Future: DCSC's approach to competitive soccer eliminates financial barriers, providing every player with the chance to develop their skills. This fosters confident, resilient young people who will apply these skills in their education, careers, and communities.

Your support helps us achieve our goal of zero out-of-pocket costs for Barstow families, making competitive soccer not just a game, but an investment in the city's youth and its future.
