COMMUNITY PROMOTIONAL - MEASURE Q FUNDING REQUEST – AUSA “TASTE OF THE BAYOU” EVENT SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 7, 2026
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Community Promotional Fund provides funding and resources for community-based organizations, schools and individuals that develop events and programs to meet new and continuing social and economic needs and trends, promote community collaboration, and/or bring recognition to the community.
DISCUSSION:
Measure Q Community Promotional Funds are intended to support nonprofit organizations and community events that provide measurable social, cultural, and economic benefits to the City of Barstow.
Events that honor and support veterans and military families align with the City’s longstanding partnership with regional military installations and its commitment to recognizing military service.
AUSA has demonstrated continued service to military-connected families in the Barstow region. The Taste of the Bayou event serves as both a community celebration and a fundraising opportunity that directly benefits veterans and Gold Star family programs.
Staff has reviewed the application and notified AUSA of the City’s insurance requirements. AUSA is currently working to provide the required insurance documentation. Approval of funding is contingent upon submission and verification of all required documents. The request is consistent with the goals and eligibility requirements of the Measure Q Community Promotional Fund.
The event is scheduled for March 7, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at the Cora Harper Community Center.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Measure Q - YTD Community Promotional Fund Account No.102.150.542.07.755 for $4009.54 in-kind donation.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
The City Council approve Measure Q Community Promotional Funding in the amount of $4009.54 as listed in Attachment "B" to support the AUSA Taste of the Bayou event, scheduled for March 7, 2025, subject to submission of required insurance documentation.
