AGENDA MATTER:
ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION NO. 5279-2026 APPROVING AMENDMENT NO. 9 TO THE 2025-2026
SALARY SCHEDULE TO CORRECT THE POLICE CHIEF SALARY RANGE EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
On November 4, 2025, the City Council approved the Police Chief classification within Salary Range No. 12380 ($15,253.90 - $19,468.27 monthly). When the City Council later adopted an updated salary schedule on December 16, 2025, the Police Chief was inadvertently listed under Range No. 12480.
This item corrects that administrative error by adopting a corrected salary schedule restoring the Police Chief classification to Salary Range No. 12380, consistent with the Council’s November 4, 2025 action.
DISCUSSION:
On November 4, 2025, the City Council approved an item confirming the salary placement for the newly appointed Police Chief. As part of that action, the Council confirmed that the Police Chief position would be placed within Salary Range No. 12380, established as a single salary range (not Tier I or Tier II) with a monthly salary range of $15,253.90 to $19,468.27. The item staff report and associated salary schedule are attached for reference.
On December 16, 2025, the City Council approved the Barstow Professional Firefighters' Association (BPFA) MOU and adopted Amendment No. 5 to the Salary Schedule to reflect negotiated compensation adjustments for represented classifications. Under that item, the Police Chief classification was inadvertently listed as Salary Range No. 12480 rather than the previously approved Salary Range No. 12380. The Council did not approve a change to the Police Chief salary range at that time; the listing of Range No. 12480 was an administrative error. The item staff report and associated salary schedule are attached for reference.
This item corrects the salary schedule to restore the Police Chief classification to the Council-approved Salary Range No. 12380, ensuring consistency with the Council’s action taken on November 4, 2025.
The correction does not modify the Police Chief’s authorized salary range or compensation and is administrative correction..
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this correction. The action simply restores the salary schedule to reflect the range previously approved by the City Council.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 5279-2026 approving a corrected Salary Schedule (Amendment No. 9) to reflect the Police Chief classification at Salary Range No. 12380 ($15,253.90 - $19,468.27 monthly) consistent with prior City Council action.
