AGENDA ITEM
AGENDA MATTER:

DISCUSSION REGARDING THE APPOINTMENT TO THE BARSTOW YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The City Council is establishing a Barstow Youth Advisory Committee designed to promote youth engagement and provide input to the City Council on matters impacting the community.

This item is presented for the City Council to appoint members to the Committee. Following appointments, the City Council will provide direction on scheduling a meeting to further define the Committee’s purpose, expectations, and goals.

DISCUSSION:

The Barstow Youth Advisory Committee is intended to serve as a direct advisory group to the City Council, offering youth perspectives on community issues, programs, and initiatives.

As a Council-led committee, each member of the City Council, including the Mayor, will appoint one (1) youth representative to serve on the Committee. This approach ensures balanced representation across the community and promotes Council engagement in the development of the program.

Following the appointment of members, the City Council may wish to conduct a dedicated meeting or workshop to establish:
 The purpose and mission of the Committee
 Roles and expectations of Committee members
 Meeting frequency and structure
 Areas of focus and priority initiatives
 Reporting relationship to the City Council
This initial direction will help ensure the Committee is structured in a way that is meaningful, effective, and aligned with the City Council’s vision for youth involvement.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no immediate fiscal impact associated at this time as this is a discussion item.

If established, minimal costs may be associated with staff coordination, materials, and program support.

Any future fiscal impacts would be brought forward for Council consideration during the implementation phase.
