⚬ SIDEWALK PLANTER SIZE AND PLACEMENT
Staff reviewed the placement and sizing of
planters.
• The original planter concept was verified to be
too large and would affect both pedestrian
walkability and driver sightlines.
• In addition, irrigation is more readily available
in other locations.
• Solution:
• Reduce Planter Size
• Remove Planters from 1
st Ave and the East
side of Barstow and Main intersections
• Add 2 planters to West side of 2
nd Ave and
Man intersection.

MODIFED PROJECT SCOPE
• Original plan was to use a $1MM HUD-Transportation appropriation to fund the improvements. ⚬ We were recently informed that, although we will receive the funds, they will not be available until later in the calendar year, which would affect our tight project timeline. • By slightly modifying the project scope, we will still be able to meet our November 11, 2026, deadline with significant improvement complete before the October 9, 2026 Main Street USA Festival ⚬ Original project scope included resurfacing Main Street from 1st Ave to 7th Ave ⚬ Modified Scope: Resurface Main Street from 1st Ave to Barstow Rd. ■ Leverage Measure I to pay for street improvements
■ Leverage the Community Benefit fund to pay for Pocket Park and Main Street Beautification Improvements
⚬ Original Project estimate = $1,282,000
⚬ Modified Project estimate = $1,000.000
■ up to $600,000 for Street Improvements
■ up to $400,000 for Park Improvements and Main Street Beautification items (i.e., intersection stencils, banners, and planters).
⚬ Staff will bring the full award and funding package to the council for approval on July 21, 2026
