FOGLESONG FIELDS NAMING TO HONOR BARSTOW FIRST RESPONDERS EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Barstow Mayor and City Council will consider naming the baseball/softball fields at Foglesong Park located at 400 East Avenue G, Barstow, California 92311 to honor Barstow First Responders.
DISCUSSION:
Barstow Mayor and City Council previously directed city staff to review BMC 12.20.110 regarding naming authority for city parks, streets, and facilities and return with options to rename the newly refurbished baseball/softball fields at Foglesong Park to honor Barstow First Responders. Staff confirmed that under Barstow Municipal Code 12.20.110 the city council shall have the final authority to name and rename all city streets, parks and facilities, and to designate commemorative street names and plaques.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Appropriate up to $3,500 from the Planned Community Promotion Fund (Account No. 1005007-5755) to cover costs associated with materials, labor, installation, and the planning and organization of the dedication ceremony.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
It is recommended that the Barstow City Council adopt Resolution No. XXXX-2026. - Name Foglesong East Field as Barstow Police Field
- Name Foglesong West Field as Barstow Fire Protection District Field Authorize the City Manager or her designee to use up to $3,500 from the Planned Community Promotion Fund (Account No. 1005007-5755) to execute all necessary documents and agreements, purchase signage and installation materials, and plan a dedication event. Further authorize allocation of staff resources and funds to organize a dedication ceremony for the fields, to be attended by the Barstow City Council and the general public.
